Jared Coones 5k - Garminless!!

Any one who knows me, knows that the annual Jared Coones 5k is my favorite race of the year. This race honors the memory of Jared Coones and his mother Jayne Coones, both taken by cancer. The race is a huge fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am always amazed at the big heart this neighborhood has, how so many children are involved in fund-raising and running in this event and the Coones family themselves for the courage and commitment that they display. This year, this event was made even more special to me because my bother - who is currently in remission from Acute Myloid Leukemia, joined me and was able to walk the course with no problems. This time a year ago, Tony was in the hospital and dangerously close to not making it - so this was really a celebration for which I am very, very grateful.
I went wild today and ran without my Garmin or a timing chip and ran just for fun this time around. During the cool-down, Janice, Herb and I went back and walked back with Tony. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect and now Tony has his first official 5k time!
